Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts
From its opening in 1922 to its closing in 1990, Suffolk High School had been an integral part of the surrounding community. A task force was assembled to re-purpose the land after its closing. Reopened as the Suffolk Center for the Cultural Arts in 2006, this facility has allowed the community to participate in the visual and performing arts, while enhancing the cultural experience of the Suffolk, Virginia, community.
H&A designers were able to transform over 74,000 square feet of utilitarian space into an ideal location for the community to celebrate the arts. At three stories, the Suffolk Center has a seating capacity of 550.
This impressive cultural arts facility includes a superb theater with a raised stage house, a grand ballroom for banquets and receptions, a catering kitchen, a dance and arts studio, a café, a green room, dark rooms, computer labs, dressing rooms, conference space, and offices.
